Chosen Narrative

My chosen idea starts off with an argument between the lead singer and his girlfriend in the video. It then moves scenes of the lead singer and his girlfriend in the cable carts, in the house and having a picnic. There are also shots of the lead singer performing throughout the video in an empty room with his guitar. Near the end of the video the female character receives a letter and she starts crying while reading it, the audience don’t know what exactly she’s crying about at this moment in time but she writes a letter to her boyfriend (lead singer) and packs her bags and goes to the train station. The lead singer arrives home and realises his girlfriend has left so he runs to the train station after her. When he gets there he sees her on the other side of the platform but then a train comes along and she disappears, the audience will think she has got onto the train but she hasn’t. Then there are back flashes of all the memories that the lead singer and his girlfriend have had and finishes with the lead singer crouching down to a grave stone with a letter on his lap that says ‘I’ve got cancer......I love you....’. This is where the audience realise she’s actually dead and all the scenes with her and the lead singer are all memories when she was alive. The letter she receives earlier on in the video is a confirmation letter that she had terminal cancer and she was going to die. The intertexual reference for my chosen narrative is of the movie ‘Ghost’ as in the film the guy is shown alive when he’s really dead.

Parachute - Kiss Me Slowly: Three Narratives

Narrative 1: It’s going to be an intertexual reference to fairy tales as the lead singer has to look desirable for the female audience. The female character in the video that is the lead singers love interest is going to be trapped in a building where the lead singer is going to rescue her and they’ll live happy ever after together.
Narrative 2: A loved up couple who have loads of fun, happy times together but get into an argument and the lead singer tries to make it up to the female character. After trying again and again, at the end the couple make up and it ends with a kiss.
Narrative 3: Have a band on stage performing to an audience. The band is playing the drums, guitars and the lead singer is singing to the camera. He tries to impress a female character that he has fancied for a while and pulls her up on stage, dances with her and they end up kissing in the end.

Artist/Band Profile

Parachute is an American rock band from Charlottesville, Virginia. They were originally named Sparky's Flaw; the band changed its name to Parachute in 2008. Parachute have been touring with artists such as O.A.R., Switchfoot, Duffy, Matt Nathanson, Michelle Branch, Jon McLaughlin and The Goo Goo Dolls. As a part of their first major tour following the release of their debut album Losing Sleep in the summer of 2009. After that they toured with artists such as 3 Doors Down, The Script, Secondhand Serenade and Kelly Clarkson. Although they’re a rock band their song Kiss Me Slowly sounds more country/pop genre rather than rock.
